GOOD QUESTIONS
Frequently Asked Questions
Who is SPRAVATO® nasal spray for?
SPRAVATO® is an FDA-approved nasal spray made with esketamine. It’s designed for adults with Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) who haven’t found enough relief from two or more oral antidepressants.
If traditional treatments haven’t worked, SPRAVATO® may offer a new path forward—one that’s guided, monitored, and supported by your care team.
How much is a dose of SPRAVATO®?
Your Quantum Mental Health Wellness Center provider will determine the right SPRAVATO® dose for you based on your personalized treatment plan. During each session, you’ll self-administer 2 to 3 sprays in each nostril, depending on the dose your provider prescribes. Our team will guide you through every step to make sure you feel comfortable and confident.
What if SPRAVATO® treatment isn't for me?
That’s completely okay! Our team will take the time to understand your symptoms, history, and goals to help determine whether SPRAVATO® depression treatment is the best fit for you. If it’s not, Quantum Mental Health Wellness Center also offers other mental health counseling. No matter where you are in your journey, our team is here to help you find the treatment plan that feels right for you.
Can you take esketamine nasal spray while staying on medication?
Yes! SPRAVATO® can be used on its own or alongside your current oral antidepressant. Your Quantum Mental Health Wellness Center care team will work closely with you to determine the best treatment combination for your unique needs, ensuring your care plan is both safe and effective.
Do I need to go to a hospital?
SPRAVATO® treatments are offered on an outpatient basis right here at Quantum Mental Health Wellness Center. Our experienced team is specially trained to prescribe and supervise your self-administration of SPRAVATO®, ensuring each session is safe, comfortable, and fully supported.
Does esketamine nasal spray work for anxiety?
No — SPRAVATO® (esketamine nasal spray) is FDA-approved specifically for adults with major depressive disorder (MDD) who haven’t experienced enough improvement with traditional antidepressant medications.
If you’re unsure whether this applies to you, our team can help determine if SPRAVATO® may be a good fit for your treatment plan.
Who shouldn't take SPRAVATO®?
We recommend calling our team to learn more about whether SPRAVATO® treatment may be right for you. Every patient’s journey is unique, and we’ll take the time to understand your health history and needs before making a recommendation.
While SPRAVATO® can be life-changing for many, it’s not suitable for everyone. Some common contraindications include:
- Uncontrolled high blood pressure (hypertension)
- History of stroke or brain bleeding
- Abnormal blood vessels at risk of bleeding (such as aneurysms or arteriovenous malformations, also known as AVMs)
- Sensitivity or allergy to esketamine or ketamine
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding
If you have any of these conditions—or aren’t sure—our team will guide you through your options and help you find the safest, most effective treatment plan for you.
Is SPRAVATO® covered by insurance?
Yes! Many major insurance providers such as Medicaid, Medicare, and commercial insurance cover SPRAVATO® depression treatment for adults who haven’t found enough relief after trying two or more oral antidepressants. Our team at Quantum Mental Health Wellness Center can help verify your insurance benefits and guide you through the approval process — so you can focus on healing, not paperwork.
Can I take Spravato at home?
No. Esketamine is a controlled substance, which means it must be administered by specially trained medical professionals in a certified clinical setting. This way, providers can monitor you for side effects of SPRAVATO® while helping ensure you see the most beneficial results. Most esketamine treatments take a couple hours as an outpatient procedure.
